Eelgrass Transplant Restoration Project

Sunday, February 26, 2012; 9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Stawamus Reserve - at the end of Billy Drive by the waterfront

Please come and help us out on Sunday, February 26, 2012 to prepare eelgrass shoots for transplant in our Squamish estuary waters. This activity is suitable to all ages and no prior experience is required. Many hands make light work and this fun activity will provide you a chance to learn first hand about our subtidal waters and why we are trying to restore them back to their original habitat. Check out our eelgrass pages for more detailed information on this species that once was an important part of the Squamish Nation diet as they would harvest herring and eulachon eggs that would spawn on the eelgrass in front of their villages! Want to find out more, give us a shout or an e-mail at 604-898-9171 or srws@shaw.ca.
